Three Hummock Island Race Update

Amended NOR and Sailing Instructions issued.

Port Dalrymple Yacht Club are over the moon with the caliber of entries for the inaugural Three Hummock Island Yacht Race, so much so that with owners wanting to use the race as a Qualifier and/or shakedown for longer races such as the Sydney to Hobart, Melbourne to Hobart and the Melbourne to Osaka Yacht Races, the race has been upgraded to a Cat 2 race.

Importantly this will be the only Cat 2 event starting in Tasmanian Waters and continues a long heritage of Offshore racing in Bass Strait by the Port Dalrymple Yacht Club.

Organisers assessed the early entries to ensure that no entry was prejudiced by this change. Initially set as a Cat 3 + Raft event, with a virtual fence to keep within the scope of a Coastal Race, this change allows skippers to sail a more tactical race based on the Weather, tides and currents of Bass Strait.

In another first this race will have a unique twist to test the Navigators, with boats allowed to round the Three Hummock Island turning mark, to port or starboard.

To complement this upgrade, the Cruising Division race has been downgraded to a Cat 4 Day Race starting Saturday morning from Beauty Point, around a virtual mark off Devonport before finishing at Low Head.
