That time of the year is here, the Ocean Racing Classics are upon us and again PDYC yachts and members are at the forefront of contesting offshore races, continuing a long tradition for the PDYC membership.
First up is the second running of the new classic, the Sydney to Auckland Ocean Race, past PDYC Vice Commodore Callum Cecil, contested the race on Alan Hills Swan 48 Cooloola from the host club RPAYC. Callum's brief wrap on the race was "A bit on in the early stages, a little slow at the end, and over seven days for the trip, but a great passage all the same, and stoked to finish! Thanks to Alan for providing the platform, and to a great crew for getting us there". Cooloola was fifth over the line and placed second on ORC rating.
Moving closer to home the Melbourne to Devonport race the Rudder Cup starts at 14:30 on Friday, PDYC has two entrants with Scott Lovell's Farr 51 Just Farr Love, Scott and Crew are back with vengeance for unfinished business in 2024 after their Pre start retirement with propellor issues.
In the hunt as one of the top three line honours entrants in the M2D is Andrew and Michell Jones Inglis 47 AdvantEDGE back for the second year. AdvantEDGE will either be a quite boat or there will be a lot "discussion / passing of knowledge" with three father and son combos onboard - Andrew Jones & Josh Jones, Michael Smart and Nick Smart and PDYC Commodore Barrie McIndoe & James McIndoe.
Both Just Farr Love and AdvantEDGE will be back on the race track the following Friday for the Port Dalrymple hosted PME Three Hummock Island Race starting at 1800 on Friday 7th November, both crews then get a short break, prior to heading north to contest the 80th Sydney to Hobart Race on boxing day.
Not satified with just clocking up those sea miles Josh Jones has had the called up to race on 2023 S2H winner Alive in November, in Malaysia Starting in Kula Lumpur and finishing in Langkawi.
