Congratulations to Port Dalrymple Yacht Club's Mia Greatbatch, Mia has been announced as a winner of the ABC’s Heywire Tamar Valley program.

Mia's Story

15-year-old Mia has been sailing since she was eight. After learning the ropes from her Dad, she's gone on to represent her home state of Tasmania three times in single sail competitions. Mia is now sharing her love of the water by teaching the next generation how to sail. After sharing her story, Mia has become a winner of the ABC’s Heywire Tamar Valley program, a high school storytelling competition giving young people a voice to share what matters in their community.

Heywire gives young regional, rural and remote students the opportunity to enter the national discussion, where they are often unheard and under-represented, and to drive projects that contribute to the wellbeing of their peers, their schools, communities and themselves. 
The ABC has run the annual regional youth project in partnership with the Australian Government since 1998.

Heywire includes the national storytelling competition, youth summits, community grants programs, the Trailblazers program and Heywire Local, a place-based initiative that supports young people in selected communities to create positive local change. 

This is where young people aged 16-22, living in regional, rural or remote Australia can share what life is like outside the major cities through text, photo, video or audio.
