New Training Fleet Launched

Published Wed 23 Jan 2019

It was a big weekend for the PDYC Discover Sailing Centre and Junior Learn to Sail Program.

On Friday afternoon we had the launch function for our five brand new Optimist Training Dinghies.

It was a special event with our sponsors or their representatives there to “pour the sparkling” on the boats before the youngsters took them for a sail.

It has been a busy two months from the time of deciding to acquire these, then arranging funding, ordering and manufacture, delivery from Victoria and setting up.

A huge thank you to our five Foundation Sponsors being, Mr Peter Kearney, Mr DI “Robbie” Roberts, WD Booth Charitable Trust, Shaw and McKillops Insurance Brokers, together with Australian Sailing which have provided and interest free loan for the balance. Also many thanks to those members who assisted in a number of ways either in securing sponsorship, networking the transport from Vic, sign writing on the boats, constructing the trollies and storage racks, or getting the boats unpacked and set up.

On Sunday morning we had the first session of the post Xmas Learn to Sail and Training Program with the new boats put to use immediately.

This has gone from strength to strength and we now we now have 30 participants registered for this course which runs through to late March.

This record numbers are indicative of the success of the Tackers program and effort put in by everyone involved.

Sunday mornings are now very busy with many families and relatives coming along.
