New sailing season open!

Published Sun 06 Oct 2019

Blustery conditions greeted the start of the 2019-2020 sailing season at Port Dalrymple, but that did not dampen the spirit of the full house of guests and members, gathered to see Patron Peter Kearney declare the new sailing season open in perfect fashion.

On the water the blustery conditions for the sail past eased as the days racing progressed, with reefs being dropped out in the division one - two fleet and the dinghies enjoying the lightening conditions. The dinghies saw the return of lasers to the Club after a low number season, with three entered. Top placing in the dinghies went to Mike Whitmore from Deviot sailing his laser, Black Duck to the win, from Nick McElwee in Under the Radar, with VC Barrie McIndoe third, in Walk On The Wild Side.

Division 1 & 2 saw the win go name to a strong past family connection to PDYC, with Glen Myler taking the win. Myler left Deal Island at 1:00 am Saturday morning to arrived at PDYC on Saturday afternoon, backing up Sunday for great Opening Day win, in Tiger One, at the Club he sailed at as Junior. Second went to PDYC legend Supernova, with both Wells brothers on board, Paul Badcock took third on PD15. Line honours went to Ambition with Elyshia Jones at the helm.

Opening Day was again a fabulous spectacle with lots of action on the water and the Club house and grounds looking spot on. Photo album
