More breeze, tight results, busy Sunday!

Published Sun 27 Oct 2019

Another blustery day greeted entrants for the first of the long trophy races and the first of the 2019-20 Offshore Series, both races saw winds in the low to mid 20s, for most of the race, so another tough day at the office.

Offshore crews have started their preparations for the 2019 L2H with Ambition, Lawless and TYCs Sassy, starting the in the Barenjoey Island race, 33nm race from Sheok Point, crews enjoyed a fast run down to the island, before the long bash back to the heads and a blast up the River, to finish at PDYC.

Line Honours went to Mick and Mel Jones, Thriller 32, Ambition with Tim Whites, Delphia 37, Sassy second home, the win by a incredible close 7 seconds to Ambition with Stephen McElwee third in Lawless.

A strong fleet of seven yachts, fronted for the first of the long course trophy races, with both divisions heading south to Point Rapid. Similar to offshore, it was a quick run south, down Long Reach, with the bash back to the Club a lot harder, but with the bonus of a out going tide under the fleet, on their return.

It was a day of close results for these fleets too, in Division 1, Piers and Sarah Findlay took their first win in their Flying 15 Vengeance, by a slim 26 seconds to Kevin Lloyd’s Next Question, with Grant Semer third in Seventeen.

In Div 2 Robin Tasker continued his heavy air form, piping Graham and Rob on Grump, by 2 seconds for the win in Spindrift, with Leon Williams third in Capriccio, only 19 seconds back, 21 seconds from first to third, in over 2.5 hours racing, that is Close!

Long weekend break for all sailors now, before we crank the Club Championships, back up, on the 10th November with Harken Pennant 3 and Beams Bros Club Champs 5 and 6.
