The return of the Classic, has been a great success, thanks to David Allan for his passion for the event and to VC Barrie McIndoe and David, along with all the volunteers that made the 2018 Classic happen. Without the support of Audi Central Launceston, as the major sponsor and long-time Classic supporters, Tamar Marine, Launceston Sport & Surf, Brierley Marine, Rosevears Hotel & AvanitPlus back for the 2018.
Conditions for the 2018 race were near perfect, for all the disciplines, with a great summer’s day greeting the teams at the Rosevears start, the kayakers got away in calm, flat conditions, with the yachts starting soon after, with the tide providing some apparent wind, to get crews moving to Gravelly Beach.
With a smooth change over, the runners took to the road in warm conditions to Devil’s Elbow, with the sailing crews optimistic with the easterly that filled in, as they headed off towards Deviot. Their optimism was soon dashed, as the breeze faded and sailing leg two was shortened, and crews motoring to the Devil’s Elbow change over.
The north end of Deviot Bay greeted them with a good sea breeze, as they came under the Batman Bridge, and restarted for the beat down through Long Reach to PDYC, as the cyclists headed to the Clarence Point loop and onto the PDYC finish to the reuniting the teams at the Club.
