Dear Members.
In follow up from the last advice regarding the applications made for grant funding to redevelop the jetty and pontoon structures, there has been some great progress.
We have been successful in receiving a grant from MAST, for $125,000 towards this project and the upgrade of the fuel berth. In addition to this, our application to the Tasmanian Community Fund, has also been approved with a further $90,000 committed to the overall project.
These Grants coupled with the money committed earlier from the West Tamar Council enable the club to allocate $235,000, to the upgrade and repair project. Work required bringing the facility into a condition that should see the Club in great shape, for many years to come.
It has been a great effort so far and I would again thank all those involved in getting us to this point. Although it is very satisfying to have received such positive news, we are now faced with actually delivering the project. There is some serious work ahead for us all.
We will be looking for your support and patience as it will not be easy to take the Clubs major on water facility out of action for an extended period without some effect on the activities around the Club. We are mindful of the impact on the members and the upcoming commitment we have made to the B14 National and World Championships, to be held at Christmas this year, which will see our Club on centre stage.
With a few raised eyebrows from some of the committee, we have set a tentative target completion date for the project, by the end of November, this year. A timeline that is very optimistic, but we feel this is achievable based on what we know now.
Given the scale of the project, this will be an incredible result.
We are presently working on finalisation of the grant agreements, which are critical before work can commence. It is our intention to formalise the project and start some serious work in the coming weeks in areas of planning permits, Crown Lease adjustments and start the design process.
There will be many working bees needed, to ensure we get the best result for the Club and its members in the shortest time and can complete a high quality project, within the funding we have achieved, so far.
Stay tuned for more updates and refresh yourself of the plan (PDF of proposal plans below) for the outline of the overall project.
Regards
Mick
