Racing begins on Sunday for the Harken Club Pennant, for Divisions 1 and 2 and the Beams Brothers, Club Championship for the dinghy fleets, long time coming, but worth the wait.
With twenty one starters in the Opening Day Div. 1and 2 fleet, we look set for a exciting Harken Pennant, twenty one was the total entry for the whole series last season, so we should be able to crack 30 boats for this years series. One change for the coming season, is both Divisions will start at 13:00, with different courses sailed for each Division, to get all boats home around the same time.
Anyone with apprehension about racing, don't fear it, take your time, start in the second row so to speak, till your comfortable with the congestion of the starts.
Racing tips we can offer for a new entrants, if you are starting out take the non spinnaker option for your first season, a clean bottom is fast, don't be still on the pontoon at 10 minutes prior to the start. Give yourself time to get rigged and comfortable with your sail combination before the start. Keep track of the start time, don't end up at 'Z' mark, when the start sequence commences, understand the start signals, they are detailed in the Club program. Biggest tip, stay safe and have fun!
In the dinghy classes we are a bit light on, but we are expecting the Sabot race fleet to grow as the season rolls on with more entrants joining Liam, Brook and Bridget on the water, as training progresses. With the NS14 and Laser sailors set to contest another tight Club Championship.
Note to all, remember your entry form, don't rush when filling it out, sail number, boat name full crew name and your name! no info on the entry, no info on the results.
Big 2020-21 season is coming, get on the water and be part of it!
