The first races of the Harken Pennant Series & Dinghy Club Championship were sailed on Sunday, in outstanding weather for October.

A moderate sea breeze prevailed with keelboats sailing to Shear Reef beacon off the Pilot Station back to Middle Island then Shag Rock and to the finish.

“Fletch” Creadon’s Mustard Cutter was first home in Div 1  and Kevin Lloyd’s Next Question took the gun in Div 2.

Div 1 handicap went to Stephen McElwee’s Lawless from Big Buttons and Mustard Cutter. Eric McCormack revelled in the conditions to steer Different to a corrected time win from Trick Cyclist and Next Question.

Spectators in the lower reaches of the river reported great viewing, as the fleet worked the currents and wind shifts out to the mouth of the river.

In the dinghy fleet, families were to the fore with brother/sister combination Nick & Brianna McElwee winning the NS14’s from husband/wife Sam & Lindy Baily and third father/son combo Barry & Magnus McIndoe.

In the B14s Chris & Rani Wells won, from Michael & Sam Jones with Andrew Box & Jody Bush third.

It was girl power in the Sabots with Taylor Edmunds first from Ruby Edmunds and Elysha Jones third.
