Championship & Ocean Race Time!

Christmas is here and with it comes National Championships and the Christmas Ocean Races and as always Port Dalrymple Yacht Club members will be representing the Club and the State across three classes and two ocean races.

The NS14s see eight members heading north the Lake Illawara for the 50th NS14 Nationals, defending their 2018 National title are Nick and Brianna McElwee, in Under the Radar. Also heading north are VC Barrie McIndoe and Magnus in Tequila, along with the Sam and Lindy Bailey Arctic, attending their first NS14 Nationals are Taylor Edmunds and Lucy Cooper, in Walk on the Wild Side.

In the Sabots Elysha Jones in Running on Empty and Ellen Hilcoat (team Captain) in Toasted Cheese, are off the Port Philip, with the Sandringham Yacht Club, hosting the 55th Sabot Nationals. Ellen has got in a bit of pre nationals training, sailing in the Sail Sydney Regatta over the past weekend, placing fourteenth in a chartered boat. Late sign up in the Sabots is the famed Crude Oil  with Sam Jones at the helm.

With 120 plus Lasers about to descend on Mersey Yacht Club, Josh Jones will be the sole PDYC rep, in Tough Dog, joining Josh will be a number of PD members assisting Mersey on the water.

In the Christmas Ocean races, Commodore Stephen McElwee, is taking Lawless south again, in the Launceston to Hobart, with crew Alan Livermore, Tim Fergusson, Paul Badcock, Jodie Sullivan and Vince Anderson.

In the Sydney to Hobart, Sydney based member Callum Cecil, is heading south on CYCA Rear Commodore, Dr Sam Haynes TP52, Celestial.

That totals to seventeen PDYC members, representing the 2018 Tasmanina Yacht Club of the Year, over the Christmas period, close to ten percent of our membership! Have safe and successful championship and ocean racing season, all.
