Big Opening for 2017-18 Season!

Published Sun 08 Oct 2017

Near perfect start to the 2017-18 Season, with a little rain putting a slight dampener on the day, but it didn’t lessen the appetite for the start of the sailing season.

Close to ninety people packed the Clubrooms for the season opening, by Patron Peter Kearney and Commodore Stephen McElwee and Vice Commodore Greg Rowsell. The sail past was one of the most spectacular for many years, with close to forty, dinghies, yachts, trailables and motor boats taking the salute from the Club Pontoon.

Racing was close across all classes, in the Sabots, Ruby Edmunds took the win in Not Today, with Sam Jones taking second in Crude Oil, with Elysha Jones third in Running on Empty.

District Dinghies saw the return of the B14s to the PDYC rigging lawn, with Andrew and Josh Jones celebrating their first outing in On The Edge (had been waiting to see what he came up with for the new name, think the real Edge should make an appearance at the Club one day, Jonesy!) with a win, followed closely by Mike Whitmore and John Hillcoat in the 505, Wife Says Sell, with Sam and Lindy Bailey third in Arctic.

Division One and Two saw fourteen entrants Lawless took the win Division 1 with Katie Livermore taking the helm while Stephen officiated, Second place went to Peter Brooks Livewire by 32 seconds from John Hepher Big buttons. In Div. 1 there was a popular win to Craig and Henry Titmus in the Flying 15, Tara, with Ross Edmunds taking second, in Hot Dog, four second clear of Ray Boon in Eppopotumus.

Great start to the huge 2017-18 season at Port Dalrymple, enjoy! Lots more to come.
