Beaker Street Festival Celestial Navigation

Published Fri 15 Jul 2022

Jeremy Parker from DSS SailTrain, who ran the Sea Survival course at PDYC a couple of years ago, has been invited to give a talk on Celestial Navigation, at the Launceston Planetarium, as a part of the Beaker Street Festival. Jeremy has passed on the details, to make those PDYC members that might be interested in attending aware of the evening, on Friday the 12th August - more details here:

There will be a short film, configured for the planetarium dome, contrasting Celestial Nav and Polynesian Wayfinding, after which I, and astronomer Chris Arkless, will conduct a short talk, questions and answers, on the workings of Celestial nav and how it compares with and differs from Polynesian methods.

I thought it might be of interest to some of you sailors up there, especially those of you considering a YachtMasters. If so, you can book through the link.

Hope to see some of you there.
